The "Business Insider" reports that every U.S. state experienced job losses during the recent downturn, but some states have a far lower unemployment rate than the 9.5% national average. Eight of the ten states with the lowest unemployment rates have one thing in common - agriculture.
The five states with the lowest unemployment rates are: North Dakota with 3.6%; South Dakota with a 4.4% rate; Nebraska with a 4.7% unemployment rate; New Hampshire with a 5.8% unemployment rate and Vermont has an unemployment rate of 6.0%. At number seven is Kansas with an unemployment rate of 6.5%; Wyoming is number 8 at 6.7%; Iowa is number ten with an unemployment rate of 6.8%.
For each state Business Insider mentions the importance of agriculture to the lower than average unemployment rate.
