Agco Offers Assisted Steering for Windrowers

AES-25 steering wheel and System 150 steering system boost meadow efficiency.

Faster hay harvest, reduced overlaps and improved swath consistency are all benefits of Agco's new assisted steering system it's offering on Massey Ferguson/Hesston  and Challenge self-propelled windrowers.

The new AES-25 Accurate Electric Steering Wheel and the System 150 automated steering system is designed for the Challenger SP110, SP115 and SP185 windrowers, and Massey Ferguson's Hesston Series 9000 and 9005 machines.

Field demonstrations show the two systems work together to reduce overlap and allow faster harvest speeds -- helping produce 7 to 10% more hay at the end of a day's harvesting than manually-steered similar machines. In one instance, using 2 centimeter accuracy test crews harvested 155 acres in a 10-hour day with a 16-foot sickle-bar head. The more consistent swath widths also mean less overlap in some areas of the windrow which means less overall and more uniform drying times.

The AES-25 is an all-electric system powerful enough to keep up with and manage steering at sub-inch accuracy at high field speeds, and quiet enough not add cab noise. Also, the design is small enough not to take up valuable operator space. Operators with multiple machines will appreciate the system which can be installed or uninstalled in minutes, so it's easily transferable from machine to machine.

Agco is offering the systems free on Challenger or Hesston windrowers powered with Tier III-compliant engines through June 30, 2011.
