The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture met in Washington D.C. last week for their annual mid-year meeting. During remarks to the meeting Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer expressed his appreciation for the association's interaction with USDA on the Census of Agriculture. He told them that partnerships such as the one between USDA and NASDA are important in getting the word out about the census.
"I know that's a big project for you," Schafer said. "As governor I was involved in it, I think I did some PSAs to get people to fill out the census forms. You are active in there and taking part in it and that is a good thing for USDA."
With a second mailing of census forms to producers who failed to turn them in by the initial deadline, Schafer says that partnership continues to be very important. Any producer who has not received or filled out a Census of Agriculture form is asked to contact their local Farm Service Agency.
