President Bush nominated former North Dakota Governor Ed Schafer to be the next Secretary of Agriculture last week, but a conformation hearing won't happen right away according to Senate agriculture spokeswoman Kate Cyrul.
"Right now our first priority is to get this farm bill approved by the full Senate so we can get it to conference and get it to the president's desk by December," she says. "That's our goal, that's what we are focused on. Obviously the confirmation hearings will have to go forward, but there is no official date set for that at this point."
