WTO Director General Pascal Lamy - who serves as chair of WTO's Trade Negotiations Committee - told members of the General Council on Tuesday that the trade committee unanimously agreed Monday that the renewed level of political re-engagement by leaders urgently requires translation into tangible progress in the negotiations if the destination is going to be reached on time. Lamy was referring to the Doha Round of world trade talks.
Lamy said the roadmaps laid out by chairs of the various negotiating committees all point in the same direction - a conclusion of the Doha Round next year. Lamy said there was also strong support for all participants to be ready to work intensively in the autumn. He said the message was all hands on deck.
