Ag Leader Gears OptRx to Wheat

OptRx can read wheat 'on the go' for vegetative index reference numbers to guide variable rate fertilization.

Published: Feb 1, 2011

Improved fertilizer efficiency in North American wheat fields is the goal of Ag Leader's new North American Wheat algorithm for OptRx sensors.

The OptRx sensor can read the vegetative index of wheat plants on the go and drive variable rate nitrogen application equipment. The technology can reduce the cost of over-fertilizing and can take into account organic matter levels in varying parts of wheat fields.

Because OptRx uses its own light-senseing technology, there is no dependence upon ambient light or angle of the sun. OptRx can be used day or night when optimum conditions are available.

Leader has released the North American Wheat algorithm for OptRx, a crop sensor used for mapping, data collecting and real-time variable rate nitrogen application.
