The White House's Office of Management and Budget has issued a document which highlights 15 areas in which the President's budget proposal funds agriculture and supports rural America. Most areas have been reported on before, but there are now some dollar figures to consider.
Overall the President's 2010 budget provides $25.7 billion for USDA. That compares to $24.108 billion for 2009. The President's budget would phase out direct payments to farmers with gross sales revenue of more than $500,000 annually. Both parties in Congress are expected to kill that portion of the budget almost immediately, but OMB Director Peter Orzag said the proposal remains in the bill as a matter of principle.
