Ag Agency Aims to Be Better User of Resources

USDA announces creation of a Sustainable Operations Council for improved use of energy and resources
Compiled by staff
Published: Aug 21, 2007

Ag Secretary Mike Johanns announced the creation of the USDA Sustainable Operations Council for efficient and effective use of USDA's energy and resources on Monday. "Many people may not realize that USDA's budget is larger than the gross domestic product of most nations in the world, and manages more land than the total acreage of several U.S. states," Johanns says.

The new council will help all USDA employees work together to "operate, promote and use sustainable operating practices so we save energy and practice effective use of our resources."

The Sustainable Operations Council works to meet USDA goals established by a presidential executive order on strengthening federal environmental, energy and transportation management. Learn more by visiting www.greening.usda.gov.
