Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that USDA will develop a new framework for animal disease traceability that will require states and tribal nations to establish the ability to trace animals moving interstate back to their state of origin. To prepare, USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has added three additional public meetings on the topic.
These public meetings will be held: Aug. 18 in Madison, Wisc.; Aug. 20 in Atlanta, Ga.; and Aug. 24 in Pasco, Wash. The meetings will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. local time in Atlanta and Pasco and from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. local time in Madison. Registration begins one hour prior to each meeting.
USDA also reminds producers that on Aug. 30 and 31 a Joint Strategy Forum on Animal Disease Traceability, co-hosted by the National Institute for Animal Agriculture and the U.S. Animal Health Association, will be held in Denver, Colo.
