Soybeans have long been a prime playground for speculators. When prices rally, that's good; when prices fall, not so much.
The downside to soybean's long history of volatility was seen in spades over the past week. Speculators — those who admit it, and those who don't — took profits and moved to the sidelines in soybeans and other markets that have seen good gains. Ideas these markets moved too far too fast led to some prudence for a change. Selling, accompanied by strength in the dollar, should last a bit longer, with financial markets having downside targets that likely will be pressed.
