Acheson's Role Expanded by FDA

Promotion carries added responsibility.

Published: Jan 21, 2008

Food and Drug Agency Commissioner Andrew C. von Eschenbach recently expanded Dr. David Acheson's portfolio to further strengthen the agency's food and feed efforts. Acheson, whose title is now associate commissioner for foods, will provide agency wide leadership for all food and feed issues, including health promotion and nutrition.

Acheson will continue to work closely with the leadership in the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition and the Center for Veterinary Medicine to carry out his mission. As associate commissioner for foods, Acheson will continue to provide advice and counsel to the commissioner on strategic and substantive food safety and food defense matters.

Acheson is one of the chief architects of the Food Protection Plan, a scientific and a risk-based approach to bolster efforts to better protect the nation's food supply. He is overseeing the implementation of the comprehensive initiative. To learn more about it, click HERE.
