Oscar Mayer, known for its bacon and meat products, announced a 10-year plan Friday to phase out pork raised using gestation crates by 2022.

The company, which is owned by the world's second-largest food company, Kraft, said it believes quality meat begins with quality care.

"We are committed to finding better ways to keep animals healthy and in a safe environment while treating them with respect," said Sydney Linder, Oscar Mayer associate director for corporate affairs. "This is not only important to us, but also to our consumers who care about animal well-being and comfort."

The company states on its website that it is "finding a better way" through collaboration with animal care experts to find solutions that are right for the environment and animals.
