The National Corn Growers Association cites harvest schedules and unknown yields as reasons to extend comment period.

The National Corn Growers Association submitted a letter Thursday asking the Environmental Protection Agency to extend the comment period regarding a waiver of the Renewable Fuels Standard from 30 days to 60 days.

"Across the nation, our members are beginning one of the busiest times of the year – harvest. Given the demands of harvest I am concerned that the proposed 30 day comment period will not provide sufficient time for a thorough analysis of the proposed waiver," NCGA President Garry Niemeyer wrote.

He said also that it was too early to determine the final corn supply.

The original EPA request for comment was issued early last week. If the comment period remains unchanged, it will close in late September.
