More power, high top end and precise handling are hallmarks of the new John Deere Gator RSX850i, a machine that promises to put "Gator" in the minds of completely different group of buyers.

David Gigandet, Deere's marketing manager for Gator utility vehicles, says "Gators have always been known for their durability, utility and safety. The RSX maintains all these qualities at its core, but the incredible power, exhilarating speed and precision handling are what sets it apart in our portfolio. It's the Gator fully evolved."

The changes come from Deere's collaboration with consultants active in Formula One and NASCAR vehicle engineering.

NASCAR and Formula One DNA is found in John Deeres new Gator RSX850i, a more powerful, more agile Gator than anyones seen in the swamp so far.

Three models, all equipped with an 839 cc, V-twin, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, engine capable of 62 horsepower and a top speed of 53 miles per hour, include the Sport, Trail and Base RSX.

The Sport model was designed for harsh desert and rocky, sandy terrain and includes sport seats, allow wheels with Maxxis tires, PreRunner bumper, cargo box rails, sport steering wheel and FOX 2.0 Performance Series shock absorbers.

The Trail model is for hunting, fishing and back country trails. It features sport seats, allow wheels and Maxxis tires, a winch, front brushguard, 2-inch front receiver hitch with recovery loops, rear bumper and cargo box rails. The Trail accepts more than 70 available aftermarket attachments.

All models are capable of 0-30 mph in three seconds with the V-twin being fed by electronic controls and a fuel-injection system. In addition, the engine offers dependable performance at high altitudes and hassle-free cold weather starting (tested to -20 degrees Fahrenheit).

The RSX rides on a four-wheel independent suspension and sports 10.3 inches of ground clearance with 9 inches of travel on the rear wheels.

The RSX850i features easy entry and exit from the vehicle through automotive-style doors and guards passengers with an ISO certified Roll Over Protection Structure.

Instruments are digital and along with standard engine indicators, include a system diagnostic light, engine oil pressure light, park brake light, seat-belt indicator, fuel level and a 4WD indicator.

The new Gator has a 400 pound payload capacity in its tilting cargo box.

Finishes include Realtree Hardwoods HD Camo, olive and black or traditional John Deere green and yellow.
