Grants Available for Conservation Innovation

The Conservation Innovation Grants are designed to get new approaches and technologies developed and adopted for use in conservation. The Natural Resources Conservation Service is accepting proposals for CIG for fiscal year 2008.

"CIG enables NRCS to work with other public and private entities to accelerate transfer and adoption of promising technologies and conservation approaches to address some of the Nation's most pressing natural resource concerns," says NRCS Chief Arlen Lancaster. "CIG benefits agricultural producers by providing more options for environmental enhancement."

Of the funds available, $10 million will go toward natural resource concerns, $5 million will be used for technology categories, and the remaining $5 million will go toward proposals addressing concerns of the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program provides the funding for CIG, and all projects must involve EQIP-eligible producers. Projects can be from one to three years in length.
