'Farmland' Documentary Trailer Unveiled At FFA Convention

Feature length documentary expected to be released in spring, 2014

Published on: Nov 1, 2013

Following up on a project first announced in March, documentary filmmaker James Moll has released an advance trailer and website for his latest film, Farmland, which focuses on the daily lives of the next generation of farmers and ranchers.

The film, which follows producers in their 20s and 30s from across the U.S., gives viewers a firsthand glimpse into modern agriculture.

The film was made with support from the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance. USFRA's Katie Pratt, a "Faces of Farming and Ranching" winner, unveiled the trailer Thursday night during the third general session of the 86th annual National FFA Convention and Expo.

Projected digital download availability for the full-length film is next spring. Until then, the advance trailer can be viewed on the film's website, along with more information about the film and full-color photos from its production.

Moll, who noted earlier this spring that he didn't know much about the farming and ranching community prior to researching it for the film, said the film is about a way of life.

"I make documentaries because it's a thrill to explore new topics and meet people that I might not otherwise cross paths with," Moll said in a press statement. "While making Farmland, I found myself immersed in a community of some of the most hard working, passionate people I've ever met.  This film isn't just about what it's like to be a farmer, it's about a way of life. It's also about a subject that affects our lives daily."

Moll is an Oscar-winning filmmaker who has directed and produced numerous documentaries covering topics from the Holocaust to an epic trek across the Sahara Desert, teaming up with Matt Damon and Steven Spielberg along the way.
