Estimating the Value of Corn Stover

Producers are seeking to salvage any value they can from the 2012 crop.
Compiled by staff
Published: Sep 7, 2012

The drought of 2012 slashed grain yields, but it also left livestock producers facing high feed bills, if they could even find the feed. As such, grain producers are actively seeking to salvage anything of value they can from drought-ravaged fields, assuming nitrate levels are manageable, while cattlemen seek feed to sustain herds through the winter. Corn stover offers a solution, but accurately assessing the value of the feed can be challenging. Iowa State University offers a spreadsheet to help.

We’re featuring the spreadsheet as our Farm Futures Spreadsheet of the Month. The 201 kilobyte spreadsheet should work with Excel 2000, 2002, 2007, 2010 or Excel XP. Click the link - Corn Stover Value - to access the latest version of this spreadsheet.
