Ag Day Poster Contest Winner Announced

Student from Kansas City Art Institute wins $1,000 scholarship

The Agriculture Council of America and Meredith AgriMedia Tuesday announced Brittany Plachecki of the Kansas City Art Institute as the winner of the National Ag Day Poster Art Contest.

Plachecki's poster was selected through a combination of online voting and screening by a nine-member panel. The contest theme was "Agriculture: 365 Sunrises and 7 Billion Mouths to Feed."

Plachecki's will receive a $1,000 scholarship from Meredith AgriMedia and an editorial feature. She will receive a portion of the proceeds from limited edition prints and the original artwork will be on display in a public location.

National Ag Day is organized by the Agriculture Council of America, a nonprofit composed of leaders and companies in the agricultural, food and fiber community. Ag Day is focused on encouraging Americans to understand how food and fiber are produced; appreciate the role of agriculture; value agriculture's role in the economy; and acknowledge career opportunities in the field.

The 41st annual National Ag Day will be celebrated on March 25, 2014. Penton Farm Progress is an Ag Day partner.

Essay contest continues

High school students interested in preparing an original, 450-word essay or a two-minute video essay about the importance of agriculture have until Jan. 31, 2014, to complete their entry for the Ag Day Essay Contest.

The national written essay winner receives a $1,000 prize and round-trip ticket to Washington, D.C., for recognition during the Celebration of Ag Dinner held March 25 at Whitten Patio at the USDA.

The video essay winner wins a $1,000 prize, and the winning video will play during the Celebration of Ag Dinner.
